A friend today asked me whether I am aiming for 2:1. I said no, because it is mathematically out of reach. It is worse than expecting Man United to win the premiership, at least that is possible. This isn't.

After that, I kind of contemplated on what has happened. Before entering university, I thought that if I graduated with a 2:1, that would be a consolation prize. Now, I am even out of reach of the consolation prize. Although my parents don't show it, I can tell that they are disappointed with my results. Let's recall an incident during CNY: my cousin (who is married, has kids, and is working in IBM) asked me what do I plan to do after university. So, after all the discussion about how lousy the job market is like in Singapore, she asked what my CAP was. So, I said not that good at 3.7. She thought it was good because, having been educated in USA, she thought that the maximum value was 4. However, when she found out it was 5, she kind of went quiet. And my mum added in "Yeah, a bit disappointed about it". Ouch...

I bet that will be the same kind of reaction from my secondary school friends and teachers. Disappointment.

Oh, how the mighty has fallen.

Okay, not exactly mighty. Oh, how the excellent has fallen. Haha... I kid... but, how things would have been if I had fulfilled my potential. Hmmm...

I shall be frequenting the library very often from tomorrow onwards. It will be Year Four Semester One Library Camping Redux...

Hmm, I guess I am typing this because I am bored. Just played some Metal Slug 4, courtesy of YC. I predict I'm gonna get finger cramps by the time I am done with this semester. Luckily it is not so addictive. I can't afford another addictive game besides CM.

Okay, gotta beat the boredom and hit the books.
Just got back from another interview, my record second interview this year. A lot of technical questions were posed. But things went out quite okay, except for 2 questions which I kind of screwed up. Should have read up properly yesterday.

Anyway, going to have to wait another 2 weeks to see how it went.

In the meantime, it's back to studying.

::.. Monday, March 29, 2004 ..::

As of 12pm this afternoon, I have completed 4 modules. What grade I got for it is a whole different ball game.

After hearing some tips from our ex-pussydent, I brushed up my art of smoking before the presentation. In fact, I went in 45 minutes earlier to see how my examiner will pose questions, and also to psyche myself up for the impending smoking. And a-smoking we went!

Examiner: So how does the gate voltage cause the electrons in the channel to precess?
Me: Actaully, the gate voltage does not directly cause the electrons to precess. It all depends on the material that is being used as the gate. The gate voltage actually causes magnetization in the gate, which in turn, causes the electrons to precess. So, in actual fact, the gate voltage does not directly cause the electrons to precess, but rather, the magnetization caused by the gate voltage.
Examiner: What material is being used as the gate? I don't know of any material that has this ability of causing magnetization with voltage applied to it.
Me: That is the reason why the spinFET has not been created yet. It is still only at its initial stages of creation. It faces many problems, and this being one of them.

Okay, you guys get the idea.

Oh, joy. Time to start studying my other modules now.
The clash of the titans ends with the honours even at 1-1. Henry gave Arsenal the lead with a super curling shot shortly after half time. However, Arsene decided to play it safe and defend the one goal lead. With three centre backs, Cygan coming on later on, it was quite clear what the intentions were. However, they were made to pay for defending the lead when Saha scored the equalizer on the 85th minute. Well, what a waste. Still, with 30 games unbeaten, a new record has been set.

Time to go to sleep. Presentation tomorrow.

Just remembered that last Friday, the episode on Survivor was a recap of the previous 8 episodes. Ris reminded me that episode 9 is always a recap. Somehow, I just don't remember this happening in Survivor Pearl Islands. The part where Chapera had their own tribal council was quite funny. Big Tom sounded a lot like Aquaman Rupert. Rob C. also sounded a lot like Jeff.And was it me or did Amber purposely put some paddings into her bikini top to emphasize her boobs as Tina? Hmmm... I don't remember seeing her big guns in later episodes.

What I do remember is Channel 5 advertising Survivor for last Friday as something else. Instead of advertising the recap, they advertised next week's episode. I wonder if we can sue for misrepresentation. Actually, I think we can. But I doubt anyone will do that.

Removed my ear ring, which was quite difficult. Took me 10 minutes. Sheesh. Gotta look prim and propper for my FYP presentation tomorrow.
Oliver the scum just flushed one of his fighting fish into the toilet. Although it has been said that fighting fish can survive dirty water, but this is asking too much from the little fellow.

I suggest calling some animal cruelty society to look for Oli.

Have I mentioned about Mr D from my law tutorial? Not me, but another D. First tutorial, he asked the tutor about restraint of trade and another concept which, until now, I still don't know. Meanwhile, the rest of the class asked if it was legal to kill a cat. Sets a big difference in standards already.

Then today, while we were discussing questions about misrepresentation, mistake and frustration, Mr D must have felt that the rest of the class is too dumb for him. It was a discussion, so of course there was a lot of questioning and explaination. Then at one point, when a classmate asked whether frustration was relevant in the question, he just said loudly "Frustration is not relevant because bla bla bla...." in a tone which clearly said "You idiot". That is why he is called Mr D, and not Mr PR.

Decided to remove the post with the pictures. Takes too damn long to load. Haha.

I wonder when can I get my own car...
Went to Green Mile Complex to buy bus tickets from Singapore to Kuala Terengganu. Oh yeah, forgot to mention that a few guys decided to take a trip to Redang after our exams. Not sure if it qualifies as a graduation trip, but it's as good as it gets. Went with KJ there and, of course, the same topic came up again. Managed to smoke him a bit before putting him off track with some slick maneuver of topic-changing. Phew, that was a close one.

Was pouring on our way back. Luckily I decided to grab an umbrella before leaving the room. And when I got back, and opened my doors, I found my table like a swimming pool. Damn... I left the windows open. Was most afraid of my LCD monitor. So, had to carefully wipe my table, my optical mouse, my speakers, my table lamp, my LCD monitor, and an extension cord, which I am sure was the reason why the powerpoints in my split tripped. After turning the power back on, some crackling sound came from the extension cord. I won't be watching TV or opening my fridge door until tonight...

YC is going to buy a car at the end of the year!
I once posted that my favourite American Idol 3 finalist was Matt Rogers. Well, he's out.

Generally thought he was okay, but nothing spectacular. And for some peculiar reason, he always has something to say to Simon. Even today when he sang his final song, we got down from the stage and sang straight to Simon, to the cheers of the crowd, especially Randy.

Now, with Matt Rogers out, my favourite American Idol 3 finalist would be Diana DeGarmo. Great voice, and especially impressed by how she manage to hold her note yesterday night.

And, of course, my favourite American Idol 3 finalist for LOOKS, would be Camile Valesco. Had an enjoyable debate with Ris over who is hotter: Camile or Jasmine. Ris chose Jasmie, that paedophile...

Lastly, the only male American Idol 3 finalist with some quality left would be Jon Peter Lewis, the pen salesman. He is anytime better than George Huff or John Stevens *snore*.

You are 22% geek
OK, so maybe you ain't a geek. You do, at least, show a bit of interest in the world around you. Either that, or you have enough of a sense of humor to pick some of the sillier answers on the test. Regardless, you're probably a pretty nifty, well-rounded person who gets along fine with people and can chat with just about anyone without fear of looking stupid or foolish or overly concerned with minutiae. God, I hate you.

So, it ended 1-1 with Arsenal getting a valuable away goal. Arsenal could have made numerical advantage count towards the end after Desailly got stupidly sent off. First yellow card for hitting Lehmann was quite dumb. I thought a World Cup and Euro2000 winner would know better.

5 hours of sleep. I'm feeling groggy. Time to study then.
Yes, look who is back.. took me quite a while, but I must say this modified template is much better than the ugly temporary green one.

Arsenal tied 1-1 with Chelsea at time of posting...
Finally settled my powerpoint slides for my CA4. Not exactly settled, still need to be reviewed by my supervisor. But I think that is enough for now.

So, I managed to sneak in an hour or two to take care of my blog. I quite like it. Reminds me of my old blog.

Bloody hot day it is today...
Dammit, all I typed a while ago got erased cos I closed the window. Reason being that someone came into the room...

To summarize, the whole problem is really boiling up. And I'm right in the middle of it. I should have really seen this coming long time ago. On one hand, I want to stick to the original plan. On the other, I want to bend back a bit and make someone else happy. But, other people won't be happy if I do that. And now someone else is left in the lurch. Everyone I know says just leave it be. But, my conscience is killing me. I guess I'm just a nice guy at heart.

For the record, this is the first ever problem I have encountered where there seems to be no solution.

DELETED
Very exciting weekend. No, it is not for rushing thesis submission, or a midterm test coming up, or a project due tomorrow. For some unique reason. And no, I am not going to explain any more than this. Haha.

But I predict another weekend like this coming up soon. Stay tuned!

::.. Friday, March 19, 2004 ..::

Once again, apologies go out to all my loyal readers nervously wondering what caused me to disregard my blog for one day. Anyone out there? Hmmm....

Finally done with my FYP thesis. And that has left me 25 dollars poorer, a stack of backlogged law notes to study, and a presentation to prepare for next week.

Woke up to find a bee hovering about at my window. Based on my vast experience with bees, I kinda expected to find the bee's nest, and sure enough, it was sitting comfortably on the window sil. That is for not cleaning my room for 3 weeks now. I'm a dirty little fellow. My window panes are all smudged and dusty, table all messy, clothes are unironed. But so what? My computer and TV are working. As long as I get my weekly dose of American Idol and Survivor, I'm satisfied. Though we haven't had 24 for 2 weeks now, and I am seriously starting to feel the effect. We want Nina Myers back!

No success in the job market. As of today, I have attended a record of one interview. I did not even make it to the interview stage for the rest. And the worst insult of all came from Tech, who refused to give me an application form to fill up. But, an interview coming up next week that I hope I will do well in. Yes, it is not related to engineering, but that's the whole point! Should have done something like economics or finance where the field is much more interesting. Definitely more interesting than trying to find ferromagnetic behaviour at room temperature in transition metal-doped ZnO (DMS). But, just gotta move on, and be happy with what I've got. Seriously looking at the looming prospects of being jobless for a while...

::.. Thursday, March 18, 2004 ..::

And I have got the graphs! The fun begins now, with a few hours remaining!

::.. Wednesday, March 17, 2004 ..::

And she is still not in...
Here I am, again, messing around with my thesis. Unable to continue and wrap up the entire thing because of one small section. Tomorrow, shall be the day of reckoning. Tomorrow will decide if I will get screwed up grades for my FYP or not. If she did not do the tests, then it will suck. If she did, then there is still hope. Red (from The Shawshank Redemption): "Hope is a dangerous thing. Hope can get a man killed." So, let's keep hoping.

Room is starting to get messy and dusty again. But, I think I won't bother about cleaning the room anymore. Will be leaving this place in 2 months anyway. So, no point cleaning it. Time would be put to better use studying or... staring at the computer screen wondering which part of my thesis I should tinker with.

::.. Monday, March 15, 2004 ..::

And she STILL has no time to run the tests. God damn... I'm going to wait for 2 more days and that's it. I'm just going to go ahead with my sucky thesis.

::.. Sunday, March 14, 2004 ..::

And with that, ends the most fun DND I have attended so far. Okay, that may be a biased opinion, since I was involved in it. Had a dance piece and a skit to add to that. Yeah, you can stop sniggering now. Together with Avneesh, Jinsheng, Sandhosh, Shaun, Long, Puisan, Joycelyn, Angela, Rohana, Shioli and Sherlei, we were... N'Sync! Not... Despite all the trainings, still managed to screw it up, BUT was still well accepted. Now I believe that even if you really SUCK, the hall will still support you. Haha. Everything was out of sync (ironically, the song was by N'Sync) and we all forgot our moves.

Skit was great. We acted out an example of an AGM, and purposely brought up some issues regarding the hall. And the Best Actor award goes to Eric Choo for his convincing and dramatic portrayal of MISS TANG! Also, some personal secrets became public domain, and some sensitive topics were made fun of. Of course, this is what it's all about. Making fun of people!

Next was a song by Block 6, with their own rendition of Afroman's "Because I Got High". But, the lyrics were changed to poke some fun at some personalities in the hall. I salute them for really coming up with such a great idea and great lyrics too. Best part was about Chin Yi......... Yup, silence. Gotta watch it to believe i t.

So, after DND, was half an hour of phototaking rush. At least we got 30 minutes, at first DND wanted us to board the buses 5 minutes after the end, which was quite crap. So, they did have some brains after all. Especially after the fiasco about alcohol in the hotel. As we all jolly well know, we need to pay some fees to the hotel if we bring in alcohol. And this tradition (yes, another one) has been going on for years. But, this year, DND decided to be nasty and informed the hotel beforehand that they will not pay the fees for the alcohol. Instead, the table will be paying. Although, yes, they are covering their asses. But, some of the final years see it as a threat directed at them, because DND already knew about the plan, and they told the hotel in advance. Anyway, alcohol was brought in and consumed with discression, until....

Mr X decided to tell everyone that he was not only high, he was totally drunk. And to further convince us, he puked all over the table, and started shouting vulgarities. And this was when the RH choir was performing Auld Lang Syne. How appropriate... So, unless the hotel staff were blind, I guess DND is going to be in quite deep trouble. This episode kind of got me thinking about drinking. Personally, I think that it is okay to drink, until you get high. Full stop. I don't understand why people want to get drunk. All you end up with is a mess, puke, a hangover, and a whole lot of embarassment. Now everyone knows that you are the first to get knocked out. And on top of that, the drunkard will make a scene, and spoil the mood for everybody. I quote what an exchange student said, which I think pretty much summed up what was going through a lot of people's mind then "Enough already, for Christ's sake". Yeah... enough already.

And while I'm on bitching, let's move on to Mr FU. Before dinner, I was taking pictures with people, when I saw Teng Kwee. I wanted to take a photo of him, and the only free person I saw was Mr FU who was sitting on the chair nearby. I asked him if he could take a photo for the both of us, and he just waved his hand. Come to think of it, it was more like shoo-ing me away. I was quite stunned because this is the first time I have seen this kind of attitude. And on top of it, he began mumbling something which definitely wasn't complimentary when I went off. I don't know what's wrong with this dude. Maybe he just had a bad day. Maybe I have said something to him to piss him off. Maybe he is just a fuckit. Maybe it is the group of people he hangs out with, which includes Mr CK. Mr CK is one weirdo. One minute, he can be damn friendly with you. Joking, laughing.... and the next day, when you wave at him when you see him nearby, he will just ignore you. Maybe he suffers from Male-PMS, and I don't know anyone else who has that.

And with that, I retire for the night. Goodnight everyone.

::.. Friday, March 12, 2004 ..::

Pardon my relatively long absence. Been busy with the 2nd final week of FYP thesis submission. Anyone out there drooling in anticipation for what's happening in my life? Anyone....?

Why can't the Malaysian or Singapore parliament be as happening as this?

Apart from that, band jam is happening tonight. DND will be tomorrow, and still no shoes. But will be borrowing from Oliver. Since my table is almost a strictly no-drinking table, those drinking people will be temporary residents of other tables with full flow of alcohol. Hope they drink themselves silly so that they will be in the right mood for our DND skit.

David found a website which has exactly the same template as my old one! Great! Emailed the chap, and got a reply from him. Just going to wait for him to send me the code.

And it's back to work for me now.

Sigh, everytime I see my blog, makes me feel more angry about what happened. It looks so disfigured... Okay, concentrate on FYP and exams. Blog can wait. Meanwhile, I can still type in my entries, which is the important part about blogging.

Today started at 8AM with law tutorial, as usual. The extra part would be that law lecture was for 4 hours instead. Okay, actually 3 1/2 hours. But it was still enough to send me to slumberland. Then, being excited undergraduates who are going to enter the fascinating working world in a few months, Jinsheng, Joo, Dave Wong, Jenny, Oliver, Wanying and I decided to pay the Career Fair at Suntec a visit. Found out that most of the booths there were educational booths, catering for students. Most of which are like Curtin University, Monash University, and some other universities that, in my opinion:

1. people will go if they have enough money, and want to escape the dreaded NUS or NTU or SMU in Singapore. Heck, any institution in Singapore for that matter. Good choice.

2. people who just can't make it, not being able to get into local universities, they just have to go to Australia or they will be degree-less.

3. people who want to take courses that are not offered in local universities.

4. people who don't know what to do with their money.

So, a lot of engineering companies with booths at the fair. Not much luck for Wanying though. So, we were busy collecting brochures from companies. Found ST Aero there together with S I A E ngineering. Going to be applying for SIAEng. Wonder why they have an oppening here, when they didn't have it on their website. While our idea was to collect brochures, and fill up some forms (like at SembCorp Marine), Joo and Jenny had plans of their own. They decided to organize their own Resume Distribution Auxillary, and gave their resumes to every booth they set their eyes on. For their effort, I give them 8 points, with 1.5 Room Points.

Then, had dinner at NYDC, where we had to line up close to 30 minutes. Only David decided to accompany me, followed by Joo towards the end, while the rest of them happily sat nearby and only knew how to complain why we had to wait for so long. Phew, in the end got to our seats, and the highlight of the day occured. Me, the hero, decided to have the "Dynamite" despite warnings about it being spicy. Well, I survived chilli padi, wassabi, kampong koh chilli sauce, McDonalds chilli sauce. How much worse could this be? A lot, apparently. For the first time in a long time, I teared while eating, and my lips got all red and painful even. Had close to 5 glasses of water to extinguish the fire. Man, I sure won't be having much hot stuff for quite a while.

Plans for new shoes scrapped. No time, and me being a picky, picky, PICKY buyer (ask weilin and haijie), couldn't decide on what to get. So, decided to get a shirt instead. Yes, very different from shoes, but I still need it. My second G2000 shirt since internship at SingTel. And my size hasn't increased. So much for gym. Speaking of which, my bicep is still aching, after a week. Must have torn a ligament or tendon or something. Lesson one: always warm up. Lesson two: same rule with eating hot stuff applies here, do not be a hero.

Dead tired now. Halfway with my thesis. Hope I can talk some bullshit and explain my lousy curves.

And Mr Hacker, damn you.

::.. Friday, March 05, 2004 ..::

Just found out that my CA4 presentation is on the 29th of March. That's right, it is at the end of the month. No more time to modify my blog. So live with it... will be fixing it once I find some free time. Thanks a bunch, hacker...
Someone just fucked my blog! FUCK!
With DND coming up soon, quite a lot of final year meetings are being organized. Especially with me being sabo-ed to be in the dance and the skit. Sigh. But, I'm pushing for one of these to be scrapped. Most of us will be involved in both, and a bit unfair to have us busy all night. I predict we will hardly be at our table at all. So, it's either one or the other is scrapped, or we just do one, and get other people to take our places in the other performance. Sigh, why can't I have a peaceful DND! But I don't think I can complain, considering Lord Long is going to be Mr International Man of Mystery. Haha.

Meetings have been held at the upper lounge. And Shaun said that the first years in the library studying were unable to study due to the noise caused by us. And apparently they were afraid to come out to complain about the noise level, since we were a bunch of boisterous final years.

Man, at times like this, it feels good to be a final year resident.

I hate animals!

Remember last year, when a goddamn cat peed on my leg. This time, another member of the cat's lower-lifeform friends decided to drop its cargo on my head. Yes, the goddamn birds at engine canteen, oh pardon me, Techno Edge, strikes again. Last warning furballs... or don't be surprised to see me being an anti animal rights groupie in future...

::.. Monday, March 01, 2004 ..::

Alright... the first, and last, midterm is finally over. A few mistakes here and there, but hey, nobody is perfect. But, not for some people. Like a certain somebody who is moaning and groaning on MSN to me right now. Something about being very stressful. And it has something to do with getting two mistakes in today's exam. Oh my, it's armageddon!! Jenny got two mistakes! Oops.. did I just type out my thought bubble? Oh well....

No such thing as cheating during midterms anymore. With so few people taking depth modules (with the exception of the gang bang in CN4223), lecturers will make us sit in LTs with empty seats between us. So, Joo's big plan to copy me went up in smoke. However, I did see him trying to sneak a peek at my paper once in a while. As usual, the ever-trying and resourceful one. But, he wasn't happy because he couldn't copy me. As a result, I am "bo steady". I like midterms... they are always entertaining.

The RHWeekly copy that I received last night was quite... interesting. I always thought that the innocent minds of the residents are always protected by the iron shield of the JCRC censors. Either we aren't, or a copy of this just managed to slip through. They actually listed 25 reasons why RH is dying. And while I agree with some of the given reasons, I don't think that it is appropriate to actually publish this. What about the innocent first years? Okay, maybe not so innocent, now that the room points are already out. But think next year. Suppose a newly-brainwashed first year were to get his or her hands on this copy? And passes them around? Then... who will go for our JCRC forums? Who will "enthusiastically" volunteer for concert? Who will stay up until 2AM for committee meetings instead of studying for a test the next day? I tell you, every single copy must be found and destroyed before they corrupt the minds of future first years.

And I just heard that only 10 first years applied for RHOC. Maybe they could put that down as reason 26.
I spoke too soon...
First midterm for the semester tomorrow morning at 10AM. And it is going to be 20% of my final score! Okay, I better sleep early. Wake up early, study more... and of course, go through my tutorials. Sleep time... zzz....
